Have you ever heard the story of Typhoid Mary? The cook in the early 1900s New York who was on the run from the police because she refused to wash her hands even though she was spreading a disease?
Well, that’s who the main character Sun Hee reminded me of, in Second Life. Except her drug of choice isn’t unwashed hands…it’s lying. She’d rather jump from city to city hiding behind her lies than facing the truth.
Second Life is an indie film about how a high school student who severely lacks attention, goes about finding it. Once she learns that lies can get her the attention she always wanted, there’s no going back.
At the beginning, I sympathized heavily with Sun Hee because of her parents’ extreme lack of acknowledgment. But as the story went on, I realized she’s a lost cause.
